Softball, Chunky Milk and Health Food

Carol asked me to post this pix for Craig's anniversary...sorry for the delay.  One of the 2 remaining Trenton Plants (Saflex), where Craig started his career 30 years ago (in Phosphates), shut down on his 30-year anniversary yesterday at 2pm.  Go figure.  Needless to say...not fun.  I'm one of 2 people that get to stay a tad longer to Mothball the plant we built up.  Not sure what decade this country will realize...SAVE THE MANUFACTURING BASE OF THIS COUNTRY !!!!

I believe this softball picture was taken in the 1981-1982 range...the last year the Hazel Park, Michigan Shanty Bar team played together.  Craig was married for 1-1/2 years when this picture was taken, but he had already moved to the Downriver area (south of Detroit) in the Village Green Apartments in Southgate (shown below).  Hazel Park is a northern Detroit suburb.

I knew Craig had to get married when he lived alone at Village Green.  After a bar event at work, I opened Craig's frig to get a glass of milk.  It poured out like chunks of feta cheese.  I then poured a glass of orange juice...it was rancid.  I didn't think that was possible.  I decided to make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.  I pulled out the bread and it was Crayola green#3 color...and would probably have killed off any infections from our entire softball team.  What I finally drank/ate that night was a glass of water (spots on the glass)...and peanut butter on a spoon (I didn't check the spoon).  Hark...the PB was good!!!!  Ever wonder why Craig lets Shelly run the Roost????

From left to right in the pix : Bill Hughes (Hubie), Johnny Smick (Don's brother), Ken Tsuchiyama (Tush...with 2 dots over the "u"), and our Man, Craig.  Look at the physique and muskles on them dudes!!!!!  Hubie's brother (David) gave me this picture back in Sept 2006.  I believe Johnny's bat is pointing in the direction of the Shanty Bar on John R Road, just north of 8-Mile (the bar is now gone, but moved to another location)...where I believe over the course of 1975 thru 1982, 3787 pitchers of beer were consumed along with 713 excellent Shanty burgers.  Our entire softball crew, to this day, is very thankful that beer and burgers are a fat-free health food.  :>O

Take care my Friend.  L&T's, the Peat Family
